Add and Remove Plesk Domain Aliases with Clear Web and Mail Scope

Published

Plesk

A Plesk domain alias makes an additional authorized domain name refer to an existing website. It is not an independent site’s document root or a new set of separate mailboxes. Confirm registration, subscription allowance and intended web/mail behavior first.

Add the alias

  1. Use verified HTTPS Plesk and select the correct subscription and primary site.
  2. Open Websites & Domains > Add Domain Alias where available. Older administrative screens used Domains and Manage Hosting.
  3. Enter the alias name and select the exact existing domain it should accompany.
  4. Review DNS synchronization, mail service, web service and any HTTP 301 option independently.
  5. Save and inspect the effective settings, public DNS and certificate coverage.

Understand each option

DNS synchronization follows the primary zone’s changes within Plesk and restricts independent alias-zone editing. It does not update an unrelated external authoritative provider automatically.

Mail service uses corresponding mailboxes on the primary domain; it does not create independent alias-domain mailbox storage. Verify routing and delivery before relying on it. With web service enabled, the alias can serve the existing site; the 301 option instead gives browsers a permanent redirect to the chosen destination. These are different behaviors, not guaranteed ranking outcomes.

For an HTTPS alias request, the source hostname needs a valid certificate before the browser can follow a redirect. A certificate for only the primary name is not automatically valid for every alias.

Remove only the intended alias

Preserve settings and dependent mail/DNS information first. Locate the exact alias and use its supported removal action and confirmation. Do not select the primary website or subscription. Check remaining service behavior afterward and retire external records deliberately; removal in one panel does not cancel registration or clear caches.
