WHOIS lookup:
Explore a domain’s public record

Search a domain to see its registrar, registration dates, status and nameservers when the registry makes them available.

One domain per lookup. Public contact details may be hidden by registry rules or privacy settings.

What does a WHOIS lookup show?

A public registration record can help you identify the registrar, confirm key dates, review domain status and find the nameservers used for a domain.

The fields vary by extension and provider. Private registrant details may be redacted.

Registration status

See the public status codes and registration dates returned by the provider.

Registrar and nameservers

Find who manages the registration and which nameservers the domain uses.

Public contact details

Review any disclosed contact information. Privacy protection can hide personal fields.

Why might an owner’s name be hidden?

Many registries and registrars limit public contact details. A privacy service may replace personal information with a proxy contact, and some fields may be withheld under local rules.

A domain registrant and a website operator can also be different people or organizations.

WHOIS questions

Does WHOIS tell me whether a domain is available?

A lookup can show whether a registration record exists, but it cannot guarantee that a name can be registered. Confirm availability through a live registrar check.

Why are some fields missing?

Registries, privacy services and local rules determine which details are public. The lookup displays only the fields provided by its source.

Can I look up more than one domain?

This WHOIS tool checks one domain at a time. Use bulk domain search to compare several name ideas and check registrar availability.
