Back Up and Restore AbanteCart Data with the Right Scope
Published
AbanteCart’s built-in backup tool can export selected database content, but a database export is not automatically a complete store backup. Keep the matching files, resources and configuration in your recovery plan, and consider a hosting-level backup method for larger stores that exceed PHP limits.
Create the intended database backup
- Use an authorized administrator account over HTTPS and open System > Data > Backup/Restore, or the equivalent Backup page in your installed version.
- Confirm the store and table selection. Include all required application and extension tables for full database recovery; a product-only export is a partial backup.
- Review available resource/file options separately. Do not infer that selecting database tables includes every PHP file or deployment setting.
- Run the backup and inspect its actual completion status. Download a protected copy outside the hosting account and record the time, application version and selected scope.
AbanteCart documents backup records under System > Logs > Install/Upgrade History. Check that the downloadable archive exists and is usable, not just that a historical record appears. A compressed archive opening successfully is not proof that all intended data was captured.
Restore only a trusted, compatible backup
Preserve the current database and files first. Test in an isolated destination with outbound email, payment callbacks and scheduled integrations disabled. Review the point in time you will recover: orders and changes made after that point may be lost.
Current vendor guidance distinguishes database restoration from resource-file restoration. For its documented archive layout, extract a copy privately and select the database dump from the data directory in the Restore form; do not upload an arbitrary archive when the form expects SQL. Restore matching resources through the separately supported procedure. Do not place an extracted database or secret-bearing configuration in a public download directory.
Validate the recovered store
Check the administrator login, products, orders, extensions and images, then exercise cart and checkout using safe test modes. Account for encryption/configuration material and actual runtime compatibility. If the backup followed a compromise, investigate the intrusion and backup cleanliness; restoration alone does not remove its cause.
