What Does SpamAssassin Do in cPanel?
Published
Apache SpamAssassin checks incoming email for characteristics associated with spam and assigns a score. In cPanel, the Spam Filters interface can use that score to mark messages, send qualifying messages to a Spam Box folder, or apply other configured actions. It can misclassify legitimate messages, so a score does not guarantee that a message is spam.
If available, sign in to cPanel and open Email > Spam Filters. Review its threshold and, if enabled by the hosting provider, configure Spam Box. Provider settings determine which options appear; contact support if Spam Filters or Spam Box is missing. See the current cPanel Spam Filters documentation.
Check Spam Box for legitimate messages before deleting or raising filtering levels. Messages there still use mailbox quota. Keep automatic deletion disabled unless you have carefully evaluated the threshold and understand that a false positive may be permanently removed. IMAP clients can generally display server folders; POP clients handle folders differently, so follow your mail client’s instructions.
