Create, Edit and Retire Webuzo FTP Accounts Safely

Published

Webuzo/BreadbasketFTP

Webuzo’s FTP controls manage file-transfer users, their permitted directory and supported quotas. Historical Bread Basket menus used Features/Manage FTP; current layout depends on the installed release. FTP credentials are not server-root or SSH credentials.

Create the intended user

  1. Use verified HTTPS Webuzo in the correct end-user context and open the FTP account creation controls.
  2. Choose the exact login, a unique protected password and the narrow directory required for the task.
  3. Review the quota and account limits. A blank/unlimited setting is not a grant of unlimited hosting storage.
  4. Create the account and inspect it in Manage FTP.
  5. Configure the client with the real service hostname, encrypted protocol, port and username. Verify the certificate for FTPS or host key for an authorized SFTP service.

The former WinSCP instruction used root details. Use the created restricted account instead; choosing WinSCP does not convert an FTP user into an SSH user. Port 21 identifies a common FTP control service, not proof that it is encrypted.

Review and change quota

In Manage FTP, locate the exact user and its Edit action. Review the supported quota field and units, change only the approved value and Save. Preserve the prior value and verify the saved setting. Do not assume the quota is independent of account disk/inode limits or that changing it fixes a permission problem.

Retire the account without guessing file behavior

Preserve required files and review whether the directory is shared with a website or another account. Select the exact user’s Delete action and confirm only after checking the installed deletion scope. Account removal does not imply every associated file is safely backed up or every existing session has ended. Verify access is retired and unaffected content remains available.

Keep passwords, exported client profiles and panel screenshots private. Never share a root password, disable encryption or delete/recreate a live site to repair this FTP user.
