Enable cPanel Zone Editor Features Through WHM

Published

WHMDNS

Current cPanel uses Zone Editor rather than the old separate Basic and Advanced DNS Zone Editor screens. WHM Feature Manager controls which DNS-editing capabilities a hosting account can use. Enabling a feature is a permission change, not a DNS repair.

Identify the affected account and feature list

This requires authorized WHM privileges. First identify the account’s package and assigned feature list, and preserve the existing list settings. A shared list can affect multiple accounts. Do not edit a list called default indiscriminately or create a replacement with the same name merely because an old screenshot did so.

Enable only the required capabilities

  1. Open the verified HTTPS WHM service and Packages > Feature Manager.
  2. Select the feature list actually assigned to the intended package/account and choose Edit. If a separate list is needed, create a distinctly named one and deliberately assign it through the appropriate package controls.
  3. Review the Zone Editor and relevant record-type editing features available in the installed release. Do not assume an obsolete Advanced DNS checkbox grants every record type or administrative DNS privilege.
  4. Enable only the approved features and save. Preserve unrelated settings and review every account sharing the list.
  5. Verify access from the intended cPanel account and check that unrelated accounts have not gained broader capabilities.

Feature access does not establish DNS authority

A visible editor can change local zone data even when public DNS is hosted elsewhere. Confirm delegated authoritative nameservers before using it. If the provider restricts a feature or the user lacks the right WHM role, request help rather than trying a server-root workaround.

Test permission changes with a non-destructive view first. Do not create and delete production records just to see whether a button works. For an actual DNS task, preserve the current records, make a scoped change and verify authoritative answers and the affected service.
