Change a cPanel Email Password Through Email Accounts or Webmail
Published
A cPanel mailbox password can usually be changed by the hosting-account owner in Email Accounts or by the mailbox user through an enabled Webmail setting. Availability depends on the host’s configuration. This guide also incorporates the older overlapping Webmail password article.
Account-owner route: Email Accounts
- Sign in to the trusted cPanel HTTPS address and open Email > Email Accounts.
- Find the complete mailbox address and choose Manage. Older interfaces may label the password action Password and Authentication.
- In the password/security section, enter a long unique password and save the update. Check the full address before applying it.
The default system-user email account is tied to the cPanel account and differs from a separately created mailbox. Do not reset the hosting-account password when only an independent mailbox needs a change.
Mailbox-user route: Webmail
- Sign in to your host’s trusted HTTPS Webmail address using the full mailbox address.
- Return to the Webmail home/settings interface if a mail application such as Roundcube opens directly.
- Open the available Password and Security or password-management option, enter and confirm the replacement, and save it.
If that option is absent or you have forgotten the current password, ask the authorized hosting-account owner or support team for verified recovery. A missing setting does not mean every mailbox requires a server-root administrator.
Reconnect affected clients
Update the saved credential on authorized phones, desktop mail programs and applications that send through this mailbox. Test receiving and sending over the host’s documented encrypted connections; IMAP and SMTP settings are separate. Repeated attempts with an old password may trigger protection systems.
Keep the replacement out of public comments and screenshots. Change a password when it is compromised, reused or otherwise requires replacement; do not promise that a fixed rotation schedule alone prevents compromise. Review forwarding rules, sessions and recovery details if unauthorized access is suspected.
