Set WHM Reseller Account Limits and Nameserver Privileges

Published

WHMReseller

WHM’s reseller controls manage account-creation limits, privileges and nameserver defaults. These are different capabilities: setting nameserver names does not require granting unrestricted server administration. Use the least authority needed and preserve the current settings before changing them.

Limit the number of accounts a reseller can create

  1. Enter verified HTTPS WHM using an authorized administrator account.
  2. Open Resellers > Edit Reseller Nameservers and Privileges and select the exact reseller.
  3. Under account-creation controls, enable the total-number limit and enter the approved maximum.
  4. Review resource and package limits separately. A total account count is not a disk, bandwidth or per-package quota.
  5. Inspect all affected settings before Save All Settings, then verify the saved limit from the intended reseller scope.

Do not assume a lower creation limit deletes existing accounts or recovers their storage. Resolve existing usage and contractual limits separately rather than terminating accounts to make a counter fit.

Review privileges independently

Root-equivalent or all-privilege access has consequences far beyond selling hosting accounts. Do not grant it as a convenience fix for a missing control or DNS-cluster screen. Package/resource restrictions can interact with privileges; inspect the installed documentation and actual assigned packages before assuming a quota is enforced.

Nameserver defaults are not registration

Where authorized, review the reseller’s default nameserver names and appropriate address controls. Confirm an actual authoritative service and matching zone data exist. A WHM default does not create registrar host/glue registration or change the delegation of every customer domain. Follow the custom nameserver checklist for those separate tasks.

After a scoped change, check both allowed and disallowed operations without creating production accounts merely to test a button. Preserve unrelated settings and use a support ticket if the provider restricts a feature.
