Restore a WordPress Backup through Softaculous Carefully

Softaculous can restore a compatible application backup that it recognizes. A restore can overwrite newer WordPress files or database records, so verify the exact installation, backup and recovery point before using Restore Installation.

Prepare a recoverable destination

Preserve the current state privately, including evidence if compromise is suspected. Record the domain, path, database, WordPress/plugin versions and backup time. Test the recovery in an isolated destination with outbound mail, payment callbacks and scheduled integrations contained.

The old claim that backups are the only way to resolve a Japanese-keyword hack is withdrawn. Recovery also requires investigating the entry point, unauthorized accounts and other persistence. A backup can contain the same compromise and does not automatically resolve a Google action.

Restore through the tracked installation

1. Open Softaculous from the trusted hosting panel and select Backups and Restore.
2. Identify the backup belonging to the intended WordPress domain and path, not merely a similar filename.
3. Review available directory/database components and confirm that they form the recovery state you actually want. Restoring only one component can leave incompatible code and data.
4. Use Restore Installation only after confirming destination and overwrite consequences. Follow logs and completion, not just the start message.

If the backup is absent, check its supported format, location, installation metadata and administrator feature availability. A different domain/path or panel account requires a separate compatibility assessment; do not edit serialized metadata blindly or publish the archive in public_html to make it discoverable.

Validate before returning traffic

Check the public page and administrator login, expected content, media, plugins, permissions and configuration. Review newer orders/comments that a rollback would lose. Restore appropriate secure configuration and investigate suspicious content rather than assuming a restored homepage is a clean site.

Softaculous backup/restore capability is not proof that backups exist for every installation. Self-managed recovery is also distinct from InterServer’s migration service: web-hosting matching-panel cPanel/DirectAdmin only, with no VPS or dedicated-server migrations.
