Virtuozzo7 Upcoming End of Life

Published

OpenVZ (now Virtuozzo7) has been an offering for many years at InterServer, and was the original virtualization software provided. New virtuozzo7 orders have not been accepted in over 3 years and all new orders run KVM a full virtualization system vs containers on Virtuozzo7. Full virtualization allows a closer experience to a bare metal server, with kernel access and more choices for the os, better out of ban vnc access, and file system snapshots. While keeping Virtuozzo7 beyond this time frame was a possible option the development cycle has gone quiet and there have been few to no updates on the status of any Virtuozzo8 or 9 upgrade path. The age of the software, and the need for a hardware refresh cycle with out a clear path forward has lead to a final end date on the offerings. By June 2026 Virtuozzo7 systems will no longer be offered and all users will need to move to an alternative such as: KVM virtualization, a full server or webhosting plan. KVM systems have the same cost, and there is support for almalinux, ubuntu, debian and installing an operating system over an ISO. This gives over a year to move off this platform.

Please contact support for options for migration. Our staff will assist with options, and possibilities on how to move, potentially keeping the same IP if possible. We want the process to be as smooth as possible. Many Virtuozzo systems may be nearing end of life, such as cpanel systems running Centos7 that are getting temporary updates from cloudlinux extended support until 2026.

The current docs from Virtuozzo at https://docs.virtuozzo.com/pdf/virtuozzo_product_lifecycle_policy.pdf indicate an end of life of Dec 2026 for the OS, however there is no clear indication that this date will be kept, and there may be further announcements in 2025 shortening the policy.

Please be aware during this time frame, development on InterServer’s Virtuozzo7 line has ended, except for security related fixes for the hypervisor.
