Setup Error Reporting in Joomla
Published
Error reporting is used to debug your application when something goes wrong. When you enable Error reporting on any application, it will start reporting all the errors in a log file or on a web page directly. Error reporting is a handy feature that Joomla provides that allows you to debug your Joomla site properly.
Not only Joomla, but other content management systems like WordPress allow us to enable or disable error reporting so that we can debug our application with proper information. Whenever your website faces an error, your technical partner or a developer needs to see the error that he/she can solve. That is why error reporting is very important.
Unlike other content management systems, Joomla allows us to enable error reporting directly from the admin panel. In this tutorial, I am going to show you how to enable or disable error reporting in Joomla.
Enable Error Reporting in Joomla
To enable error reporting in Joomla, log in to the admin panel of your site and click on the System -> Global Configuration option from the main menu. See the following screenshot for reference.
Make sure you are in the Server tab of this page. If you are not, click on the Server tab. In the server tab, we can update all the server level settings in Joomla.

Under the Server tab, in the Server Settings section, find the Error Reporting option. In the error reporting option, you will see a drop-down menu with multiple options. Select the one that you want to set on your site.

After selecting the type of error reporting, click on the Save button given on the top-left corner of the page.
So, this is how you can enable or disable error reporting. If you do not want to log any errors, select None in the Error Reporting section. It is a good practice to keep the System Default option by default. Also, do not forget to update it once the errors are solved on your Joomla site.
