Move an InMotion cPanel Website to InterServer Safely
Published
For an InMotion Hosting account that uses cPanel, prepare a complete private account backup and confirm an InterServer cPanel web hosting destination before transferring it. Do not assume Standard Web Hosting uses cPanel or that a full archive can be restored through ordinary account-level upload controls.
InterServer’s complimentary migrations are limited to cPanel-to-cPanel and DirectAdmin-to-DirectAdmin on web hosting plans. VPS/dedicated transfers, cross-panel moves and builder conversions are outside that service. Confirm eligibility and private delivery through the migration support process.
Create the source backup
- Use InMotion’s authenticated account portal or its valid HTTPS cPanel login. Verify which product contains the website and email; a domain registration does not establish the hosting location.
- Open the enabled cPanel backup interface and request a full account backup. Review the destination and notification settings, then wait for generation to finish.
- Download the completed archive through authenticated access to a private local directory. If the feature is unavailable or generation fails, ask InMotion about its source-product backup route.
InMotion’s cPanel backup guide distinguishes full and partial exports. Its Backup Manager is a separate feature; do not mistake a selected-files restore or home-directory download for a full migration archive.
Arrange a private transfer and restore
Never move an account backup into public_html. The former instruction could expose database contents, mail and credentials. Ordinary FTP is unencrypted; use the secure route agreed with support rather than publishing an anonymous archive link.
Identify the destination service, account username, domains and email scope in your ticket. Disclose existing destination data and any single-domain request. A full-account restore is not a safe merge into an unrelated account, and a website-only restore does not automatically include mail or every panel setting.
Test and plan cutover
Preview the restored site with the real hostname before changing DNS. Check pages, login, uploads and database-backed functions, while preventing a test copy from sending customer mail or taking payments. Check mail separately and plan final synchronization for changes after the initial backup.
Record current DNS and preserve third-party mail records. Keep InMotion active until the destination is accepted and the rollback overlap is no longer needed. There is no automatic zero-downtime or fixed completion guarantee.
