WHM Certificate Notifications: Keep Failure Alerts Actionable

Published

WHMSSL

WHM administrators can control how server alerts are routed and which AutoSSL events notify users or administrators. Keep certificate failure and expiry alerts actionable; disabling messages does not fix an unsuccessful renewal.

Choose the correct notification layer

WHM Contact Manager manages server event priorities and delivery channels. Manage AutoSSL has separate user and administrator notification choices. Individual cPanel accounts can have Contact Information preferences, but server choices may override or hide those options. These are not interchangeable settings.

Review and change narrowly

  1. Confirm an administrator contact destination that is monitored and reachable even if the affected service fails.
  2. In WHM Contact Manager, review communication channels, event priorities and which recipients actually receive an event. Changing a channel threshold can affect unrelated server alerts.
  3. In Manage AutoSSL, review the user and administrator event choices. Prefer retaining failure, warning and deferral visibility instead of globally disabling notifications to reduce routine-success messages.
  4. Save deliberate changes and check the resulting configuration. Confirm delivery through an appropriate notification test or a real recorded event; a checked setting alone does not prove email delivery.

Follow up on the actual failure

Investigate the domain and validation error in the AutoSSL log. Keep independent expiry monitoring for critical endpoints and for certificates managed outside AutoSSL. Do not cause a production certificate failure just to test an alert.
