Configure and Verify Softaculous Automated Backups

Published

SoftaculousBackups

Softaculous automated backups schedule copies of a particular tracked application installation. Availability, storage locations and allowed frequencies depend on the administrator’s configuration. Saving a schedule is not evidence that the next backup completes.

Configure an existing installation

  1. Sign in to the trusted hosting panel, open Softaculous and find the exact installation by domain and path.
  2. Open Edit Installation/Edit Details and locate Automated Backups if it is available.
  3. Choose the supported frequency and backup location, then set backup rotation deliberately. Rotation limits the number of retained automated copies and can remove the oldest one when the limit is reached.
  4. Save Installation Details and inspect the resulting configuration.

For a new installation, the corresponding backup controls may appear under Advanced Options during setup. Do not reinstall an existing application merely to reveal that section. If the host disables the function, ask about an approved alternative rather than promising that every panel includes it.

Check actual coverage and storage

Confirm the components included for the particular application. Installation backup is not automatically a server, email or entire-account backup. Review exclusions, free space and storage quotas. Keep a protected independent copy; a backup on the same account may be lost with that account or server.

Verify a real scheduled artifact, timestamps, logs and any remote upload, not only a settings success message or email. Avoid overlapping backup jobs from multiple plugins and installers. Treat notification delivery as one signal, not proof of recovery.

Keep retention and recovery intentional

Retain a known useful recovery point independently of automatic rotation, especially before an upgrade or incident investigation. Test restoration in an isolated compatible environment and record how to recover if the main hosting panel is unavailable. An old or incomplete backup can restore the original problem as well as the site.

This describes configurable Softaculous behavior, not an InterServer service-wide backup schedule or retention commitment.
