How to Configure SMTP Mail Settings in SMF

Published

SMF

SMTP stands for Simple Mail Transfer Protocol. The e-mails we send are sent through this protocol in the majority of the cases. When you click on the Forget password link and receive a mail with a password reset link, The E-mail you get is sent via SMTP in most of the cases.

Companies like ElasticEmail, Mailgun, and Amazon Simple E-mail Services provide SMTP relay servers to allow us to send E-mails from White-listed and high-quality SMTP servers. It is because when you send an E-mail from an IP address that is blacklisted in some of the E-mail services, your E-mails might end up in the Spam folder.

So, when you create an account in any of these services, they provide you SMTP credentials. You can use those SMTP credentials to send E-mails directly from your application. It is actually highly recommended to use this type of service to send E-mails from the application.
