Published
Logs are very important when it comes to debugging. However, Sometimes logs might use up all the storage space available on your system if you don’t clear them up. These logs are unwanted logs.
How do you know if you can clear up all the logs to free up space on your server? If you are having an on-going issue on your Simple Machines Forum, logs are important. If everything is going as perfectly as they can, logs are not important.
If you are using SMF to manage a forum, you can clear the logs directly from the admin panel of your Forum. It is a very easy process and you can perform this action within a minute. So, In this tutorial, I am going to show you How to clear Logs in a form powered by SMF (Simple Machine Forum).
How to clear logs in SMF
To clear logs, Log in to the admin panel of your SMF and then click on the Admin option given in the main navigation bar.
Then, go to the Main -> Administration Center option from the secondary navigation menu. See the following screenshot for reference.
On this page, you will see a lot of options. Click on the Forum Maintenance option.
In the Forum Maintenance section, click on the Routine option given in the sub-navigation bar just like the following image.
On this page, Locate the section with the title “Empty out unimportant logs”. You will see a note in that section that says avoid clearing logs if something is wrong. If everything is fine, you can clear the logs.
Even if something is wrong on the system, clearing logs will not break anything more on the system. But the logs are important to a developer or a system administrator to debug the application.
Once you have decided to clear the logs, click on the Run task now button given in the section.
It will clear all the unimportant log files and start them again. This process is easy and does not require any technical knowledge. But the navigation is harder. Once you know where to find the option to clear logs, you can easily repeat the process within a minute whenever you want.
