Move a Bluehost, JustHost or HostMonster Website to InterServer
Published
To move a Bluehost website to InterServer, export the data for the correct hosting product before changing DNS. Existing JustHost and HostMonster customers should also start with their current Bluehost account: the official JustHost transition page and HostMonster transition page direct those customers to Bluehost. The old Site Backup Pro screenshots are not a reliable guide to today’s account interface.
Complimentary migration eligibility: InterServer provides migrations for web hosting plans only, limited to cPanel-to-cPanel and DirectAdmin-to-DirectAdmin. VPS and dedicated-server migrations are not offered. Cross-panel transfers and website-builder conversions are outside this service; the manual instructions below are for self-managed moves when the matching-panel web hosting requirements are not met.
If the source account has cPanel
- Sign in to the Bluehost portal, open Websites, and choose Manage Site for the source website. In its Overview, open cPanel if that option is available.
- In cPanel, open Files > Backup, then Download a Full Account Backup.
- Choose Home Directory, select a completion notification and start generation. Wait for completion before downloading the archive through authenticated access.
Bluehost’s manual backup guide describes this path. A full cPanel archive is suitable only when the destination can restore that format. Keep it intact and outside every public document root. Do not move it into public_html to create a public download link.
If your site uses a different backup product
For a WordPress site with Jetpack Backup enabled, Bluehost documents Websites > Manage Site > Backups > Manage, then the Activity Log. Select the desired backup event, choose Download backup, create the download and retrieve it after preparation. See its Jetpack backup-download instructions. Availability depends on the service you actually have.
A WordPress backup, Softaculous application backup, home-directory export and full cPanel account archive are different formats. Confirm which restore tools InterServer can use before generating or delivering one. Choose a backup date deliberately; an older copy may omit recent orders, comments or uploads.
For a manual website export
Download the site’s files through authenticated File Manager access or an encrypted transfer method supported by the account. Include hidden files, uploads and required application data outside the document root. Export its MySQL/MariaDB database separately, including structure and data. A ZIP of website files alone does not contain a live database or recreate mailbox accounts.
Restore into the intended destination, update application credentials and preview using the real hostname before cutover. Check login, database-backed pages, forms and mail routing. Prevent a test copy from sending customer messages or taking payments, and arrange a final synchronization for sites that receive new data.
Arrange InterServer restoration
Open a ticket in the InterServer customer portal. Identify the source product, destination service, domains, archive format and whether mail is moving. Follow the migration support process to confirm scope and private delivery. Keep the old hosting available until the destination is verified. Domain registration and email migration are separate tasks.
