DirectAdmin Account Backups: What to Include and How to Restore
Published
DirectAdmin account backups can include website files, databases and email, depending on the components selected. Review that selection before relying on an archive: a database-only backup or an email-settings backup is not a complete account recovery copy.
Create a user-level backup
Sign in through the provider’s HTTPS DirectAdmin address and open Create/Restore Backups, also called Site Backup in some interfaces. The menu location depends on the skin and permissions. The current documentation places the user interface under Advanced Features.
- Identify the account and domains you intend to back up. Check available storage and the provider’s backup limitations.
- Select the needed components. For a full account recovery, include website/domain data, database settings and data, email accounts and message data, and other required account configuration.
- Start the backup and review completion messages or errors. Download the completed archive through authenticated access to private storage; do not move it into a public website directory.
Keep a dated inventory with the backup. Forwarders and mailbox settings are different from message data; database-user settings are different from table data. An unchecked component will need another recovery route.
Restore deliberately
Before selecting a restore file, back up the current destination and confirm which components may be replaced. Choose the intended archive and restore scope, then review the result. Do not treat restore as a merge into an unrelated live account or assume every backup version is compatible with every destination.
Test representative pages, database-backed actions and mail folders, as applicable. Check omitted components and errors before removing the source or the last verified backup. Store archives with restricted access and retain recovery copies according to your policy.
User backups versus server administration
User-level backups do not provide root access or scheduling through that interface. Reseller and administrator backup tools have different permissions and scheduling controls. If you need a hosted-account transfer, use the migration support process; the complimentary service is matching-panel web hosting only, not VPS/dedicated migration.
